VENUE & TRAVEL INFORMATION

The 2002 World Pool Championship takes place at the Cardiff International Arena, between July 13 and 21.

The CIA is one of the UK's top indoor venues and has successfully hosted the event before in 2001.

FORMAT

There are 128 players in the main draw. 96 are provided by the World Pool Association, 32 are provided by Matchroom Sport, who are promoting the event.

For the first round, the players are divided in to 16 groups of eight and play each other once over a race to five with alternate breaks (Saturday 13 July-Tuesday 16 July).

At the end of the group section, the top four players in each group move into the last 64 and the bottom four are eliminated.

Thereafter, the format is as follows:

Last 64: race to 9, winner breaks (Wednesday 17 July).
Last 32: race to 9, winner breaks (Thursday 18 July).
Last 16: race to 11, winner breaks (Friday 19 July).
Quarter-Finals: race to 11, winner breaks (Saturday 20 July).
Semi-Finals: race to 11, winner breaks (Saturday 20 July).
Final: race to 17, winner breaks (Sunday 21 July).


PRIZE MONEY

The total prize money for the event is US$300,000. It is divided as follows:
